Charles D. Stimson ’86, a Naval Reserve officer and an assistant United States attorney in Washington, has been named the Defense
Department’s chief adviser on detainee issues, Pentagon officials said. Mr. Stimson, 42, a former homicide prosecutor in Frederick County, Md., becomes the deputy assistant secretary of defense for detainee affairs as the Army is preparing to issue a new field manual governing interrogations and the Pentagon is writing a new set of standards for handling terror suspects. He is a graduate of Kenyon College and the George Mason University School of Law. Mr. Stimson, a lieutenant commander in the Navy Reserve Judge Advocate General’s Corps, succeeds Matthew C. Waxman, who left last month to become the principal deputy director of the State Department policy planning staff.

Great idea with the website! Many happy developments: (i) have been married to my terrific wife, Marla, for six years, (ii) we just had our first child, a baby girl named Milena, and (iii) I have left Morgan Stanley to launch a new firm, The Capstone Group (www.capstonellc.com), to provide advisory services to the middle market. On the Chi front, I see John Morris and Rob Ix frequently. Please drop by anytime you visit Boston and, as always, Go Red Sox!!
