(1851 Morganton Dr Henderson, NV 89052; [email protected]) I am retired from Oregon State University as a mathematics professor and live in Henderson, Nev. I have a great deal in that I’m retired but actively support my wife’s interesting job, which provides wonderful opportunities for me to see the world and meet interesting people.
My wife Katharine is the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. She travels 80 percent of the time and I travel with her selectively. As a result, I’ve had many wonderful opportunities including photography of numerous consecrations of new bishops; regular talks to clergy spouse groups; advocacy for both clergy and bishops’ spouses; travel to locations throughout the world, from the Americas to Asia and Europe; and meeting and greeting dignitaries, both political (Obamas/Bidens) and religious (Archdeacon of Canterbury). When at home, I regularly play tennis in the mild Southern Nevada weather and enjoy visiting our mountain retreat in Oregon, where we go on back packing trips and major hikes. Our daughter Kate is a Captain, soon to be a Major, in the Air Force as an AWACS pilot. I also keep in regular contact with a Kenyon classmate, Bard Robert.

(22 Nathan Court Fletcher, NC 28732-9750; [email protected]) I retired in July of 2010 after more than 35 years in the radio news business, the last 30 working for WBBM-AM in Chicago, a CBS all-news station, as a reporter and news anchor. After a brief stay in Phoenix, I moved to the Asheville, N.C. area in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. I have been sharing my life for the last 17 years with my life partner, Judy Ricky. I get to see my twin boys and daughter often now, since they live only three hours away in the Atlanta area. One son is married, the other engaged. I recently underwent hip replacement surgery, so I am working on getting back to a more active life.

Class of 1961
2007 was a painful year due to two major lumbar surgeries that resulted in the insertion of two titanium rods and 6 screws spanning L2 through L5. Just prior to the surgeries, I was back at Kenyon for a memorial event for Bob Weidenkopf (Beta ’61) and had the good fortune to discuss my problems with Doctor Mike Kolczun (Beta ’62) who is an orthopedic surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic. His support was invaluable to me during this trying time. 9 months later, the surgeries (in Atlanta) have relieved all the leg pain and numbness, although I still am recovering from the surgery itself. I had a 13 inch scar with a host of sliced nerves and muscles. On a happier note, my youngest daughter Megan, is entering her last semester of undergraduate studies at Lee University in Cleveland, TN and will enter Univ. of GA. graduate school for her Masters in Ed.

Richard A. Poetker ’66 passed away on November 1, 2006 of metastasized melanoma. He was sixty-two and a resident of Racine, Wisconsin.
Pete was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the son of Wilfred and Anne (Keown) Poetker. At Kenyon, he majored in English and was a member of student council, the swim team and Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Pete earned his MBA from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, in 1971. He served as a first lieutenant in the Army during the Vietnam War and married the former Bernadette Nihlson in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 1967.
For more than twenty-five years, Pete was employed by S.C. Johnson and Son, Inc., where he was working as treasury manager when he retired in 2002. He belonged to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute. He was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Racine, where he served as treasurer. He was a member of the board of directors and served as both president and treasurer of the Racine County Opportunity Center.
Peter is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Bernadette; sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher and Tammie Poetker, David and Rebecca Poetker, and Richard W. Poetker; daughters and son-in-law, Catherine and Jacob Bjork, and Jennifer Poetker; grandchildren, Thomas and Barrett; sister-in-law and her hjusband, Jean and Dennis Kohoe; uncle Allan Jankus; nieces and husband Laura and Paul Hammer, and Alexa Kohoe; other realtives; and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Florence Nihlson, and aunt, Isabel Jankus. Gene Little ’65 was elected to the Board of Directors of Huntington Bancshares, Inc., a bank holding company based in Columbus, Ohio. Gene was formerly a director of Unizan Financial Corp., a bank holding company based in Canton, Ohio Unizan was recently acquired by Huntington Bancshares. Gene is the retired Senior Vice President and Treasurer of The Timken Company, an international manufacturer of highly engineered bearings, alloy and specialty steels. Gene also serves on the board of directors of Great Lakes Carbon Corp and Bucyrus International.

Class of 1961
Am looking forward to planning our 45th class reunion with Hutch Hodgson (Beta) for next year (2006 Reunion) and return to the hill once again. I am presently working with the FAA as the Asst. Principal Operations Inspector for Delta Air Lines after 35 years in the aviation industry with Eastern Airlines (B-720, B-727, DC-9,A-300 and L-1011s), World Airways (DC-10/MD-11), USAfrica Air Lines (MD-11), Korean Air (MD-11 Captain) and Simulator Instructor (MD-11) for Delta Air Lines in Atlanta. I also flew for the Ohio ANG in F-84-F and F-100 fighter aircraft. My daughter is attending Lee University in Cleveland TN and just finished her Freshman year with a 3.73 GPA with a 4.0 her second semester. Needless to say, I am one happy father. My older daughter just presented me with a baby boy, so I am playing the grandfather role to the hilt. Hope to see you’all when I return next year for my reunion.
