John Clark ’61: “Good things will happen if you just keep going.”

Brother John Clark ’61 saw an opportunity in his career to branch out on his own, and he jumped on it. For 15 years, John was President of his own company, which employed exactly one person—himself. John is still friends with several brothers and their wives today, and has made it a point over the years to organize reunions whenever possible.

Peter WhiteCongratulations to Brother Peter White ’66 who won the Gregg Cup, Kenyon’s highest alumni award for his long service to the College. Peter is the 17th member of Delta Tau Delta to win the award!

RIP Tom Edwards, Honorary Delt

Tom Edwards passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2015, leaving behind his loving family as well as the many lives he blessed during 60 years of service in Gambier. Tom won 11 OAC swim championships before replacing himself with the indomitable Jim Steen in 1976. Tom continued to serve as Dean of Students until his 1990 retirement from Kenyon College. Tom lived on Kokosing Drive with his wife Gloria, just up the hill from the Delt Lodge. The Delt Lodge was built with Tom’s active support in 1969. Tom represented Kenyon in negotiating the title transfer of the land to the Delts. It was with his approval that Chi Chapter was granted the ability to house Delts at the Lodge and provide the necessary cash flow that sustains the building today.
What’s Up, Doc?

Doc Burns, Faculty Advisor Emeritus, reports that he misses Gambier and Kenyon tremendously but is adapting to his new life in Florida. Doc, who will be 87 years young on February 28, has started hormone treatment for prostate cancer. While he is not looking forward to the heat flashes, he is glad that his fraternity brothers are not around to rib him about getting in touch with his feminine side. Doc would welcome any calls or letters from his Delt brothers at 10901 Johnson Blvd, Apt J207, Seminole, FL 33772-7704 or 740-390-1018.

Jake Appleman ’06 on His Novel Brooklyn Bounce and His Days at the Chi Chapter
On February 4, 2014, a new book hit the stands (and, Amazon, of course). An account of the highs and lows of the Brooklyn Nets’ historic first season (2012) in the borough, Brooklyn Bounce by Brother Jake Appleman ’06 has been described as “a breezy, cautionary tale for modern sports fans in an era in which money trumps all, and owners who know nothing about the NBA meddle destructively.” The paperback version was released on the book’s one-year anniversary. We caught up with the native New Yorker to learn more about his inspiration behind the book and his days at Chi Chapter.
