May in Gambier tends to conjure up quite a
few good memories, and May 25th of this year
was no exception as Delts, classmates, friends,
and family gathered at the Delt Lodge to honor
Byron Horn ’86.
The occasion was most certainly bittersweet,
as the pain and sorrow from Byron’s passing
last summer are still tender to many. But it
was clear to all who gathered under perfect,
cloudless blue skies, that the occasion was quite
sweet, nonetheless. Sweet because old friends
had been brought together; sweet because
such powerful connections seem to effortlessly
restore themselves despite time, age, and or
distance between us; and sweet because it was
plain to all family, friends, classmates, and Delt
brothers who had gathered that Byron’s life
had a distinct quality and a sweetness to it that
was going to extend far beyond his time on
this earth. Perhaps Byron’s own family never
doubted this, but his Delt brothers took it upon
themselves to make sure that Byron’s legacy at
Kenyon and among Delts, in particular, would
continue well into the future.
